Baixada Santista has the largest number of locations considered to be in poor condition, with seven; analysis measures the volume of fecal bacteria in water

The São Paulo Coast has 13 beaches unsuitable for swimming, according to the latest assessment of the Beach Quality Map, released by the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo (Cetesb). The other 162 monitored beaches have good conditions for bathers. The number of beaches considered unsuitable decreased compared to last week, when 22 of the 175 monitored locations had inadequate conditions.
Baixada Santista has the largest number of beaches unsuitable for swimming: seven of the 72 monitored locations. On the North Coast, six of the 98 beaches analyzed are in poor condition. On the South Coast, all five beaches studied were considered suitable. Cetesb’s analysis measures the volume of fecal bacteria in water. When the volume is above the limit, this means that the water is compromised and there is a greater risk of contamination for bathers.
A beach can also be classified as unsuitable if there are other situations of risk of contact with water, such as the presence of oil or the occurrence of red tide.
