According to the North American president, the attack “hit all the boats” on a pier where boats are loaded with drugs. “We reached the implementation area. That’s where they implement, and that no longer exists”, he detailed.
The President of the USA, Donald Trumpstated this Monday that the United States “reached” an area in Venezuela where they are boats loaded with drugs.
This is the first time that the United States has held a land operation in Venezuela since the beginning of the pressure campaign on the government of the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Madurosays the agency.
“There was a big explosion in the dock area where they load the boats with drugs,” Trump said. “We hit all the boats, and now we hit the area… it’s the implementation area. That’s where they implement it, and this no longer exists”, detailed Donald Trump.
It’s not clear which government body acted or what target was achieved. Trump had previously stated that had authorized the CIA carrying out covert operations in Venezuela.
On a radio show last week, Trump made vague comments about an apparent US operation against a “major installation” and Venezuela.
The CIA, the White House and the Pentagon have not publicly clarified these comments by Trump and refused to answer Reuters’ questions. The Venezuelan government did not comment on the incident described by Trump, and there were no independent reports in Venezuela about what happened.
The US government had previously highlighted the success of attacks on suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean, with the Pentagon sharing images of several of these attacks on social media.
Two weeks ago, Donald Trump, who with Venezuela, had suggested in the South American country, against “the horrible people who bring drugs” for the USA.
“And now we begin the ground attacks. overland is much easier. And this will start to happen”, said Trump, when asked about the situation with Venezuela at a press conference in the Oval Office of the White House.
Last month, Reuters reported that the United States was ready to start a new phase of operations related to Venezuela, as the Trump administration pressure increased on Maduro’s executive.
At the time, two official US sources said that the first part of this new action against Maduro would probably involve covert operations.
US actions have focused mainly on vessels suspected of drug trafficking. More than 100 people died in more than 20 attacks in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific.
Earlier this month, U.S. military leaders briefed lawmakers on an incident from September in which a U.S. attack killed 11 people but left several survivorswhich would become killed in a second attack.
