Arrest comes one day after action against IS in the northwest of the country, which resulted in the death of three police officers and six members of the group, all Turkish citizens
The security forces of arrested 357 people in operations carried out in 21 provinces against the organization announced the Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, this Tuesday (30).
The operation took place one day after an action against IS in northwestern Turkey, which resulted in the deaths of three police officers.
“During simultaneous operations carried out this morning by our police forces in 21 provinces, we arrested 357 suspects linked to IS. (…) We have never given the slightest chance to those who try to bring this country to its knees through terrorism”, declared the minister at X.
Following Monday’s operation, a clash between police and IS members lasted several hours and resulted in the deaths of six members of the group, all Turkish citizens.
Last Thursday, the Istanbul prosecutor ordered the arrest of 137 suspected IS members “following reports that the terrorist organization IS was planning attacks during Christmas and New Year celebrations.”
Turkey, which shares a 900-kilometer border with fears the infiltration of the jihadist group, which remains active in the neighboring country.
