Blanár believes in a peaceful solution in Ukraine: He emphasizes the need to continue negotiations with the USA

The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár (Smer-SD) hoped that this year it would be possible to reach a peaceful solution in Ukraine. According to him, European countries and European diplomacy have failed in this regard. On the other hand, he is happy for the American administration, which is looking for a peaceful solution. According to him, the negotiations between the United States of America, Ukraine and Russia should be further supported. However, he fears that the current proposals for solutions for Ukraine are only “bad and worse”. “There is no longer a good solution, but it is necessary to stop the senseless killing and negotiate instead,” said the head of the department in a year-end interview for TASR.

  • Minister Juraj Blanár hopes for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
  • He emphasizes the need for the continuation of negotiations between the USA, Ukraine and Russia.
  • He appreciates American efforts in initiating plans to end the conflict.
  • Slovakia actively contributes to the support of the peace process and dialogue.
  • Blanár calls for new security rules after the end of the conflict.

“It is in the interest of Slovak diplomacy and Slovakia to reach an agreement as soon as possible. Although we can see that it will be difficult, because the four-year-long conflict brought so many problems associated with it that it will be very difficult to find an agreement. But we have to work on it, and the Slovak Republic and our diplomacy are very active in this matter.” said the minister.

He positively perceives the initiative of the American administration in the search for a peaceful solution, which started more or less successful negotiations between the American, Ukrainian and Russian parties. “It has brought forth a new plan that tells us where it should go, and that is the 28-point plan that so far, according to information, indicates the final unraveling of this conflict.” remarked Blanár. He believes that joint negotiations next year will lead to peace.

He emphasized that today, in addition to the peace agreement, it is also necessary to define what will happen next. “What security guarantees will there be and how will we develop the future together with the Russian Federation, because the Russian Federation will remain here and we do not want that tension to remain here,” he explained. According to him, the world and even the security guarantees after the war in Ukraine will not be the same as before. “There has to be a whole new reality that allows us to define new security rules so that we can work together,” added the minister.
