The former president (PL), convicted of leading the coup attempt after the 2022 elections, underwent a new endoscopy exam this Wednesday morning (31), is in a stable condition and had no complications, according to his medical team.
In recent days, which is why he underwent three surgical procedures, respectively on Saturday (27), Monday (29) and Tuesday (30).
The expectation is that Bolsonaro will be discharged this Thursday, but his condition remains under medical evaluation in case he presents any further complications. The former president was admitted to the DF Star hospital, in (DF), on the 24th, to undergo hernia surgery.
According to his doctors, his condition is what is called “persistent hiccups”, something extremely rare. At the same time, he suffers from sleep apnea considered severe by the team that monitors him, with up to 50 records within an hour during the night.
This second incident has caused hypertension, and he started sleeping with the help of the Cpap device, which helps with breathing.
The trip to the hospital had to be authorized by the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court), since Bolsonaro is currently in prison at the PF Superintendence () in the Federal District.
After this intervention, his doctors decided to perform a new procedure, this time to try to control his hiccups.
The first procedure, to block the right phrenic nerve, was carried out last Saturday and lasted between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
Last Monday, an intervention was carried out to block the left phrenic nerve, which lasted the same.
As the hiccups returned on Tuesday morning, he underwent a new intervention, to reinforce the two blockages.
Since then, according to his team, his condition has been stable and uneventful. This Wednesday’s endoscopy was performed to “evaluate gastroesophageal reflux.”
