“The reality is that the airport, and I’ve heard a lot of people say this, not just police officers, not just police representatives, Lisbon airport does not have a structure that allows it to solve the problems that arise every day as a result of the flow of passengers that land and pick up in Portugal every day.”

On reinforcement of the contingent now announcedoPaulo Santos questions whether they will be the 10 elements of the GNR that will solve truly existing problems.

“We continue here with a narrative of trying to whitewash what reality is, which is a reality that is not only due to an absence of staff or a shortage of staff in the first phase and which now seems to be more or less resolved. And another issue arises, which is the lack of space conditions for the airport to function fully”, he notes.

Regarding the suspension of the European border control system, the president of ASPP cconsiders that it will cause problems, since there will not be “screening of people entering and leaving our country as expected”:

“It seems clear to me that these three months without the system working properly compromise national security.”

The union leader does not spare alreadys reviews to ANA and accuses the company of putting money before security and says that, “Despite making millions, it never managed to resolve basic issues at Lisbon airport.”
