China has ended a military exercise near Taiwan, calling it a success

China has ended large-scale military maneuvers near Taiwan that simulated blockades and attacks on naval targets. She emphasized readiness to face Taiwan’s attempts at independence.

China announced on Wednesday that it had “successfully completed” military exercises around Taiwan that included live-fire maneuvers aimed at simulating the blockade of key ports and attacks on naval targets, the Chinese military said on Wednesday. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

  • The Chinese military has ended exercises simulating the blockade of Taiwan.
  • President Xi declared the unstoppability of Taiwan’s reunification with China.
  • The maneuvers included live fire and simulated naval attacks.
  • Japan and Australia criticized China’s military activities.
  • The drills followed the announcement of US military supplies to Taiwan.

“The Eastern Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has successfully completed the ‘Mission Justice 2025’ exercises,” military spokesman Li Si said in a statement. But he added that troops would continue to train to “thwart separatist attempts at Taiwan independence and outside intervention.”

After this announcement, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that Taiwan’s reunification with mainland China cannot be stopped. “The unification of our motherland – this trend of the times – is unstoppable,” he said in his New Year’s message from Beijing, state news agency Xinhua reported.

The exercises also included shooting

China’s armed forces began large-scale military exercises called Mission Justice 2025 near Taiwan on Monday. The drills began just 11 days after the US announced that it would sell $11.1 billion worth of weapons to Taiwan. This is the largest such arms package for Taiwan in history.

On Tuesday, Chinese maneuvers included heavy firing in five zones around Taiwan. A spokesman for the Eastern Military District Command of the Chinese Armed Forces said the drills are aimed at practicing sea and air combat readiness, achieving overall superiority, blockade of key ports and territories, and multi-dimensional deterrence.

Japan and Australia condemned the military exercises on Wednesday. Tokyo said China’s maneuvers were raising tensions in the Taiwan Strait, adding that it had communicated its position to Beijing. Australia, on the other hand, called the maneuvers destabilizing. Beijing condemned the criticism.
