Drone attack in Odessa leaves 6 injured, including children

Russian drones hit residential buildings and the power grid in Odessa, in southern Ukraine, in a night attack that left six people injured, including three children, authorities said on Wednesday (31).

Four buildings were damaged, according to Oleh Kiper, head of the regional military administration. The company DTEK reported serious damage to two of its energy facilities and said that, in December alone, ten substations supplying the region were hit.

Throughout 2025, Russia intensified long-range attacks against urban areas of Ukraine. In recent months, the offensive against energy infrastructure has gained strength, in an attempt to deprive the population of heating and running water in the middle of winter.

Between January and November, more than 2,300 Ukrainian civilians died and 11,000 were injured, according to the UN – an increase of 26% compared to the same period in 2024 and 70% compared to 2023.

The bombings come amid a new round of diplomatic efforts to end the war. On Sunday, US President Donald Trump received his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski, at his resort in Florida and stated that an agreement is “closer than ever”.
