It’s New Year: Countries celebrate the arrival of 2026; look

New Zealand, Kiribati and Tonga have already celebrated the arrival of 2026, being the first nations to celebrate the New Year.

The first turning point took place on the island of Kiritimati, the largest in the archipelago that forms Kiribati, at 7am this Wednesday (31st), Brasília time.

Shortly afterwards, at 7:15 am, Brasília time, it was the turn of the Chatham Islands, off the east coast of New Zealand.

At 8 am, there was celebration in most of New Zealand (with some exceptions) and Tokelau, Samoa and Tonga, as well as some regions of Antarctica.

– some with differences of 15 or 30 minutes, others that are more than 12 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time.

This means that New Year celebrations will last more than 26 hours around the world.
