Eurostar has advised passengers to postpone their journeys from December 30 to a later date, citing “major disruption” including significant delays and cancellations.

The railway company Eurostar announced this Tuesday (30) the progressive resumption of traffic between and continental Europe after several hours of suspension due to a technical problem, which changed the plans of many passengers in the middle of the festive season. “There was a problem with the electricity supply in the tunnel under the English Channel, followed by a shuttle stopping in the tunnel,” explained a Eurostar spokeswoman. According to the representative, this means that all trips to and from London were suspended.

“After the partial reopening of the tunnel under the we will begin to resume our services. The problem with electrical supply via the catenary persists and we strongly recommend to all our passengers that they postpone their journey,” Eurostar said on its website.

The operator of the Channel Tunnel, Getlink, reported that train service carrying vehicles between France and the United Kingdom was also suspended and “resumed very progressively on one track shortly before 2pm” (11am Brasília time).

Getlink assured that extra services will be added and that its teams “continue in parallel the repair work on the electrical supply”.

At St Pancras station, Eurostar’s London terminal, passengers received the announcement at midday that traffic was suspended. Some travelers left the station, while others were looking for new tickets or hotel reservations.
