O ETIOPE MUSE GIZACHEW ea Tanzanian Sicily Panga were the big ones winners of the 100th edition of the São Silvestre International Raceplayed this Wednesday (12/31), in São Paulo (SP).

The men’s and women’s events were dominated by Africans, with emphasis also on Brazilians Fábio Jesus e Nubia de Oliveirawho finished in third place in their races.

São Silvestre 2025: how the men’s race went

Ethiopian Muse Gizachew won the São Silvestre 2025 title in an exciting finish on Avenida Paulista. The definition came only in the final meters of the route.

Gizachew overtook Kenyan Jonathan Kipkoech about 100 meters from the finish line and completed the race in 44:30. Kipkoech, who led most of the race, finished second, in 44min34s.

The best Brazilian was Fábio Jesus, who secured third place by crossing the finish line in 45min14s.

The result represents Fábio Jesus’ best performance at São Silvestre, surpassing the fourth place obtained in 2022.

São Silvestre 2025: how the women’s race went

In the women’s race, Tanzanian Sisilia Panga confirmed her favoritism and won the 100th edition of São Silvestre with authority. Dominant from the first kilometers, she gained an advantage halfway through the route and crossed the finish line in 51min09s.

This was Sisilia Panga’s first victory in the traditional São Paulo race. After completing the race, the athlete fell ill and needed medical attention, and was removed from the scene by the organizers.

Kenyan Cynthia Chemweno came in second place, completing the course in 52min30s. Brazilian Nubia de Oliveira finished in third place, with 52min42s, repeating the result achieved in the 2024 edition.

At 23 years old, Nubia has accumulated relevant achievements in athletics, such as two Brazil Trophy titles in the 10,000 meters and a South American championship.
