Explosion in a luxury Swiss ski resort: multiple victims are reported

A fire broke out in the Swiss ski resort of Crans Montana, which hit a bar during a New Year’s Eve celebration and caused an explosion. Emergency services are still on the scene.

Several people died and dozens were injured after a fire and subsequent explosion hit the Le Constellation bar in the luxury Swiss ski resort of Crans Montana in the canton of Valais. This was announced early Thursday morning by the Swiss police, TASR reports based on a report from the portal.

A massive fire broke out in a bar during a New Year’s Eve celebration. The operation center of the police in canton Valais confirmed the accident to blick.ch. The number of dead and injured is not yet known, spokesman Gaëtan Lathion said.

Possible causes of fire

The fire, which broke out at 01:30, may have been caused by the use of pyrotechnics during the concert. According to the portal blick.ch, claims about the explosion appeared in some chat rooms.

Videos were published on the Internet, which allegedly capture the aforementioned fire, but at first it was impossible to independently verify them.

Rescue work continues

According to the public television SRF, a large number of members of the rescue services with helicopters and several ambulances are on the scene.
