An unusual scene caught the attention of those who were in the Gameleira region, in Rio Branco, on New Year’s Eve, on Wednesday, 31st. A capybara was spotted swimming in the Acre River, amidst the large volume of water and the strong current.

The record was published by the Click AC page, which highlighted the curious moment with the caption: “Out of nowhere, a capybara swimming in the river”. The video quickly made waves on social media and surprised internet users.
The incident occurs at a time when the Acre River had exceeded the alert quota throughout the week, due to the intense rains that hit the capital and the river basin. Despite the low tide recorded in recent days, the level still remains high, with strong currents.
The presence of the animal in an urban area and in flood conditions drew even more attention, as the river remains at a volume above normal for this period. Capybaras usually live close to watercourses, but appearances in central parts of the city, such as Gameleira, are not common.
