Vienna – Inmates receive more money for their work in prisons. Due to the legal adjustment, the hourly wage paid will increase by an average of nine cents to 2.09 euros in 2026. The Ministry of Justice is currently working on a new regulation, whereby the adjustment will no longer only be based on the collective wage index of Statistics Austria, but also on the average wage and salary agreements. This should be decided in the first half of the year.
