According to information obtained, the animal escaped from the owner’s yard and attacked the child, who was playing in front of his own residence at the time of the attack.
Members of the public who witnessed the scene acted quickly and managed to intervene, removing the victim from the dog’s claws, which punctured and caused serious injuries to one of the child’s legs.
After the attack, the girl was rescued and taken to João Câncio Fernandes Hospital, where she was treated.
The case generated outrage and apprehension among neighborhood residents. People told the report that the situation could have ended in an even more tragic way. “If the dog had attacked the child’s neck, she could have died instantly. It was a relief”, commented a resident, expressing concern about the presence of animals considered dangerous roaming freely around the city.
According to reports, the child’s relatives, outraged by what had happened, managed to locate the pitbull and ended up slaughtering the animal. The ContilNet portal’s reporting team obtained images of the dog’s remains, which remained in the middle of the public road until the moment of registration.
The animal’s owner was not located by the report. It was also not possible to obtain contact with the family of the indigenous child who was attacked.
The episode reignites the debate about the responsibility of owners of large animals and the risk that a lack of control can pose to the population, especially children. The space remains open for demonstrations and clarifications from the parties involved.
