Milei says he will create a right-wing bloc against the “cancer of socialism” in South America

The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, stated that he is working to form a bloc of right-wing governments in South America. In an interview with CNN, Milei said that the region had awakened from what he called the “nightmare of 21st century socialism”. According to him, there is an ongoing movement to reject this political model.

Asked about the creation of a group of countries aligned to the right, the Argentine president replied: “Don’t have any doubts, I am actively working towards this.” According to Milei, there is still no defined name for the bloc, but the articulations would involve around ten countries.

In the interview, the president also criticized socialism more broadly. For him, it is a “farce” used to seize power and which results in the impoverishment of the population. Milei also stated that the group’s proposal under discussion would be to “embrace freedom and face the cancer of socialism in its different versions”, including what he called 21st century socialism and the “woke” agenda.

Milei was confronted with the possible inconsistency of following Donald Trump’s agenda, which preaches distancing from China, while Argentina maintains an important commercial platform with the Chinese. In response, Milei stated that the guideline mentioned by Trump refers to the geopolitical field and not the commercial aspect, which, according to him, should be treated differently.
