President Nicolas Maduro said he was “ready” for talks on anti-trafficking, or economic deals with the US government, during a televised interview broadcast Thursday, amid the crisis with Washington, which is putting increasing pressure on Caracas and has deployed an armada of warships and other elements of the US military with heavy firepower to the Caribbean.

“The US government knows this, because we have told many of its representatives: if they want us to seriously discuss an agreement to fight drug trafficking, we are ready. If they want oil from Venezuela, Venezuela is ready for American investments, like that of Chevron, whenever they want, where they want and how they want,” the head of state told VTV, stressing that “comprehensive economic development agreements” could be considered.

What he said about the first blow in Venezuela

In the same interview, President Maduro avoided answering when asked about , which his US counterpart Donald Trump spoke about on Monday and is believed to be the first blow on Venezuelan soil.

“This is something we can talk about in a few days,” Mr Maduro said when asked if he would confirm or deny that the raid had taken place.

Mr Trump said on Monday that the US had destroyed docks loading ships he said were used for drug trafficking off the coast of Venezuela.
