Although they rarely appear in Polish kitchens, their possibilities are enormous. Brazil nuts are distinguished not only by their taste, but also by their fascinating history and impressive nutritional values.

Brazil nuts are one of the largest nuts available for sale. They have a characteristic, wedge-shaped shape and a light interior with a creamy consistency. Their natural taste is a combination of subtle sweetness, buttery delicacy and light earthiness. They do not crunch like cashews, they are softer, which makes them perfect for both baking and dessert creams.

Their impressive size results from the structure of the fruit of the hickory tree, which produces large, hard shells hiding up to 20 nuts. Importantly, Brazil nuts come to us in an almost natural form. They are not shelled of the extra skins and usually retain a thin, brown outer shell.

The greatest curiosity is the fact that Brazil nuts cannot be grown on a plantation scale. They grow only in the wild Amazon forests — in Brazil, Bolivia and Peru. The tree they come from needs a very specific environment: the presence of certain species of bees and animals such as agoutis that help spread the seeds. The hickory can live up to 500 yearsand bears its first fruits only after several decades. No wonder the price of nuts is higher than that of popular varieties, because each of them is a true gift of nature.

Specialists recommend not to exceed 30 g per day, i.e. just a few pieces. It’s not much, but thanks to its intense nutritional value, it’s enough to really support the body’s functioning.
