In the northern part of Slovakia, on Friday morning, warnings of the first degree against snow tongues and drifts, as well as warnings against wind and wind on the mountains, apply. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informed about this on its website.

They are provisionally valid for the whole of Friday and Saturday (January 3). “The formation of snow tongues is a potential hazard to traffic activities. In the north of the country on Friday, the wind in the mountains with gusts of 110 to 135 kilometers per hour can also cause problems. The warnings are in effect for almost the entire Žilina region, several districts of the Prešov region, as well as for the districts of Gelnica, Spišská Nová Ves, Považská Bystrica, Prievidza, Brezno and Banská Bystrica. “The expected wind speed is normal for the given time of year and area, but it represents a potential danger for human activities (especially for hiking, mountain climbing, etc.),” wrote SHMÚ.
