The German Film Authority investigates the history of its members. He plans to expose possible Nazi connections

Following the institutions’ past actions, the FFA is planning a new investigation into former members’ Nazi ties. Chief Peter Dinges emphasizes the importance of clarifying history.

The German Federal Office for the Promotion of Film (FFA), based in Berlin, plans to commission a study to determine possible ties of its former members to the Nazi regime. The head of the FFA, Peter Dinges, told the DPA agency, writes TASR.

  • The German Film Authority is considering a study into Nazi links.
  • A similar analysis was already carried out by the Spio organization in the past.
  • Spio took away honorary awards from some film personalities.

Spio, the leading organization of the German film industry in the country, already had such a study done in the past, which was supposed to clarify the possible Nazi ties of former members of its leadership and award winners. As a result, she withdrew honorary awards from 14 film personalities. Among them were filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, actor Heinz Rühmann, former Berlinale director Alfred Bauer and film diva Olga Chekhov.

Stop the Nazi ties

“The FFA is much younger — it was founded in 1968 — but there could still be Nazi connections at that time,” Dinges said.
