The American tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera) is a stately tree originating from eastern and southeastern North America. However, it has been planted in Europe for over 300 years – mainly in parks and as an ornamental tree.

The American tulip tree is a very attractive plant. It is often confused with magnolia. It belongs to the same family, but produces different flowers. They are cup-shaped, greenish at the base, then turn orange and greenish again.

The American tulip tree sheds its leaves in winter, so in autumn they turn yellow or gold. It then looks extremely impressive.

In the natural environment it can reach up to 30 meters in height, but in garden cultivation it is much smaller. It is a slender tree with a conical, dense crown, which makes it look extremely representative. It will be a wonderful decoration of the garden.

American tulip tree this is undoubtedly worth having in the garden. In Polish conditions, it usually blooms at the turn of June and July, attracting attention with the charm of its flowers. It is also quite easy to grow and is quite resistant to low temperatures.

The most important thing for the health of the plant is to choose the right place for it. The American tulip tree needs a warm, sunny position, sheltered from the wind, with permeable, moist soil with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction.

It is best to plant the plant in spring, and after planting, form a small bowl around the trunk to facilitate watering. It is also worth using a stake to stabilize the young tree. When it comes to subsequent care, the American tulip tree needs regular watering (especially in the first years), but it cannot be overwatered.

The plant can be fertilized from time to time, preferably using organic or multi-component fertilizers intended for flowering plants. It is also worth pruning the crown occasionally (always in early spring) to get rid of damaged or frozen shoots.
