Two men are missing after boat disappears in SC; body is found

Fire Department rescue teams located, this Thursday (1st), the body of one of the occupants of a boat that disappeared in Santa Catarina. The vehicle was lost on Tuesday (30). Two fishermen are still missing.

The military resumed, this Friday morning (2), the search operation for two men missing after the disappearance of a speedboat in Balneário Pirraças.

During the activities carried out this Thursday, the Eagle aircraft located the body of one of the occupants, a man 46 years oldapproximately 15 km from the last point where the vessel was seen.

The searches rely on the joint action of Military Fire Departmentyes PMSC (Military Police) and from Navy.

Disappearance on Ilha Feia

The group, made up of three men, went by boat to the Ugly Islandem Piçarras Spa. The last contact with family members occurred around 5pm on that date, when they reported that they still remained on the island.

After this time, communication was interrupted and there was no further location via cell phone signal.

The disappearance was formally reported to the 7th Military Fire Battalion on Wednesday (31). The searches began with watercraft along the shore of Balneário Piçarras, region of Barra Velha and around the Itacolomis Islands e Grant Islands.

Items located and victim identification

The aerial and sea sweep, which covers the quadrant between Balneário Piçarras and Barra Velha, allowed the location of the victim’s body.

Near the victim’s location, the teams found several objects that belonged to the vessel, such as a backpack, cooler cover e water bottles.

Despite finding wreckage and one of the victims, the other two occupants of the boat are still missing. They were identified as two men aged 45 and 35 years.

Continuity of the search and rescue operation

The searches entered a new phase with the commitment of various land, water and air means.

According to the Fire Department, activities had been interrupted late yesterday afternoon due to the heavy rainswhich hampered the navigability and visibility of the teams.

At the moment, the teams work in an integrated manner and new information will be passed on as the operation planning progresses, the institution states in a note.
