Brazilian presidential candidates comment on attack on Venezuela

The majority of the opposition celebrated the action and treated Nicolás Maduro’s arrest as a ‘liberation’ of the Venezuelan people

Pre-candidates for the presidency of Brazil have already spoken out about the American operation that led to , 3. The predominant reaction among opposition pre-candidates , , and is to celebrate the attack, treating it as a “liberation” of the Venezuelan people. The position clashes with the president of Brazil and pre-candidate for re-election, who stated that the American attack crossed “an unacceptable line”, according to a note released by the government. Senator and pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) celebrated Maduro’s capture on the social network X in several publications. Bolsonaro stated that it was not an American “invasion”, but rather a “liberation” from Maduro’s dictatorial regime. “Venezuela has become one of the most extreme examples of how an authoritarian regime can destroy a nation,” pointed out the senator. “Maduro used Venezuelan territory as a strategic route for distributing drugs to several countries.”

The governor of Paraná, Ratinho Júnior (PSD), congratulated the Donald Trump government on the American operation in Caracas and stated that the Venezuelan people “had been oppressed for decades by undemocratic tyrants”, in a publication on X.

Romeu Zema

The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Partido Novo), wished on the social network X that Maduro’s capture would open new paths for the Venezuelan people. “May the fall of Maduro help the Venezuelan people finally find peace, stability and the path to development.” Zema said that the Chavista regime isolated Caracas from the rest of the world and “showed the tragic effects of authoritarian regimes.”

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSD) expressed concern about the increase in tensions in Latin America in a publication on the social network

The governor highlighted the need to resolve conflicts through dialogue and respect for the sovereignty of nations. “Our Latin America needs peace and cooperation, not armed interventions.”
