With the preventive arrest of former advisor to the Presidency of the Republic Filipe Martins this Friday, the 2nd, the number of those convicted of involvement in the coup plot imprisoned in some State institution reached 14. Of the 29 convicted by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), 23 are deprived of their liberty.
Martins was arrested at his home, in Ponta Grossa (PR), where he was under house arrest, and taken to a prison in the region. The order was issued by STF minister Alexandre de Moraes. With the decision, he joins 13 other convicts who were already detained in some state facility.
The First Panel of the STF concluded on the 16th the trials of the coup plot with the conviction of Martins and four other defendants from the so-called “management core” of the coup plan to keep former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in power after his defeat in the 2022 elections. In total, 29 of the 34 denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) were convicted between September and December.

Moraes decreed the preventive detention of Martins on the 27th. In the same decision, the STF ordered the house arrest of ten people convicted of the coup plot, with the aim of avoiding the risk of new escape attempts, such as that of the former director general of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) Silvinei Vasques. The defendants were awaiting trial in freedom, as the convictions had not yet become final.
