Hundreds of French women and teenagers reported that photographs of them published on social media had been “undressed” by Grok, Elon Musk’s AI platform, and published on X, Elon Musk’s social network. They were “smaller people with little clothing”, says Grok.
French authorities will investigate the proliferation of sexual deepfakes generated by the Grok artificial intelligence platform on the X social network, the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to .
This Friday, French deputies Arthur Delaporte contacted the Public Ministry, after thousands of sexual deepfakes not consented to have been created by Grok and published on X. The two deputies confirmed to Politico that they filed a complaint with the authorities.
“These facts were integrated into the investigation already underway about X,” stated the Public Ministry, adding that this crime is punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of 60 thousand euros.
In the last two days, hundreds of women and teenagers reported that their photographs, shared on social media, had been “undressed” by GrokElon Musk’s xAI artificial intelligence, integrated into X (formerly Twitter), at the request of users.
These AI-created photomontages “violate the dignity of the people portrayed”, argues Delaporte, in a letter addressed to the Public Ministry, to which Politico had access.
Three French government ministers — Roland Lescureminister of economy and industry; Anne Le Hénanffsecretary of state for artificial intelligence and digital affairs; and Aurore Bergéminister of equality — reported to the French Public Prosecutor’s Office and the government online surveillance platform Pharos the existence of “manifestly illegal content”, and requested “its immediate removal”.
The French High Commissioner for Children, Sarah El Hairystated that she was “outraged” by these practices.
The case reinforces the investigation already opened by the French cybercrime unit against X, expanded in November to cover antisemitic statements and of Holocaust denial published by Grok.
Contacted by Politico, the social network and the European Commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In a post on X, responding to concerns about “extremely inappropriate” images of minors, Grok stated: “There are isolated cases in which users requested and received AI-generated images who represented minors with little clothing”.
“A xAI has security mechanismsbut improvements are being made to completely block this type of requests,” guarantees o Grok.
