He claims to have spoken this Saturday morning (3) with ministers Rui Costa (Civil House), José Mucio (Defense), Gleisi Hoffmann (Institutional Relations) and Mauro Vieira (Foreign Relations).
Denarium says he is concerned about a large influx of Venezuelan refugees due to US military action against Nicolás Maduro.
“Venezuela does not fit within Roraima. The state already has a very high cost to deal with Venezuelans who enter Brazil through our border,” he stated.
According to the state government, currently 300 to 500 Venezuelans enter the Pacaraima border every day. At its peak, in 2019, there were up to 1,500 per day. “This level could return quickly.”
Every month, around 2,000 are internalized by , that is, sent to other states with the promise of jobs.
According to Denarium, around 190,000 Venezuelans currently live in the state, for a total population of 700,000.
“Around 30% of the state’s health expenditure serves this Venezuelan population. Likewise, around 30% of criminal incidents in Roraima involve these immigrants”, he states.
