PT bench condemns US attacks on Venezuela and calls for a peaceful solution via international organizations

Deputies claim that action ordered by Trump violates ‘Venezuelan sovereignty, reject the use of force and defend UN and OAS mediation’

The bench of already released this Saturday (3) a note in which it “vehemently” repudiates carried out during the early hours of the morning under orders from President Donald Trump. For parliamentarians, the action represents a serious violation of the fundamental principles of international law.

In the text, the bench emphasizes that respect for independence, self-determination of people and non-intervention are “basic precepts of sovereignty of all nations” and states that international conflicts must be resolved exclusively through dialogue and respect between countries.

“Each and every conflict needs to be mediated by dialogue”, says the note, which reinforces that equality between sovereign States must prevail and that “the best solution always involves peaceful means, without the use of force, without violence and war”.

Deputies also defend a negotiated solution, with and the Organization of American States (OAS), with the aim of preserving civilian lives and preventing the crisis from worsening. According to the PT, it is essential to prevent the conflict from “gaining continental dimensions”.

In the end, the bench calls on democratic forces to defend the sovereignty of the Latin American people and to seek peaceful solutions to the crisis, “with respect for the Venezuelan people and the democratic institutions” of the country.
