In the coming night, Slovakia will be affected by an insignificant secondary cold front, which will advance to our area from the west. It will also bring snow in some places, but it will mostly be light. On Sunday (January 4th) in the morning there may still be a lot of clouds in places, but during the day it will be mostly sunny again. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informs about this on the social network.
According to meteorologists, the night on Monday (January 5) will be mostly clear, with a light wind, and the air will be cold. The temperature around minus ten degrees Celsius may also occur locally in the lowlands, in valleys and basins with snow cover it will be around minus 15 degrees Celsius. Even minus 20 degrees Celsius cannot be completely ruled out in the coldest valleys.
In the next period, according to SHMÚ, slightly colder air will penetrate to us from the northeast. During the day on Monday, clouds will begin to increase from the south, but it will only snow occasionally. Wider snowfall could occur on Three Kings (January 6) and in the following days.
“However, the abundance and exact location of the main precipitation band is still questionable. These types of situations can be treacherous at times, especially when forecasting over such a long period of time. However, it follows from the ensemble forecasts that there is a lower probability of precipitation in the west than in the east of the country,” explained SHMÚ, adding that in the following days it is very likely that even in the lowlands there may be a few days in a row with all-day frost.
