It is an indispensable part of every bathroom and is sorely missed when it is missing in the hotel room for whatever reason: the hairdryer. Hardly any other everyday object has remained so linguistically present. Anyone who dries their hair after the shower doesn’t use a “hairdryer”, but rather a hairdryer – regardless of which logo is on the device. The brand name has become detached from the product and become a synonym, the result of a special mix of technology history, consumer culture and linguistic convenience.
