North Korea (DPRK) on Sunday condemned the US military intervention in Venezuela and the detention of its president Nicolás Maduro together with his wife. According to Pyongyang, there is a serious violation of Venezuelan sovereignty. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.
North Korea’s foreign ministry “strongly condemns the actions of the US in trying to establish its hegemony in Venezuela,” a ministry spokesman said in a statement carried by the state-run KCNA news agency. “This incident is another example that once again clearly confirms the dishonest and brutal nature of the USA“, he added.
On Saturday morning, the United States detained Maduro and flew him from Venezuela to New York, where he will appear in federal court. The defendant is accused of several crimes, including drug smuggling or possession of weapons.
Maduro’s abduction has already been condemned by several of Venezuela’s allies, including China and Russia, who have called for his release and return to the country. South American left-wing governments in Brazil, Colombia, Chile or Cuba also joined the criticism.
