The US military operation in Venezuela was not without casualties: at least 40 people were killed in the attacks

At least 40 victims were claimed by the American operation in Venezuela, which was undertaken by American special forces on the night of Saturday. They captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and took them out of the country. A high-ranking Venezuelan official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The New York Times (NYT) this, TASR reports.

According to American newspapers, the victims are civilians and military personnel. The Guardian reports that one of the victims is 80-year-old Rosa González, who died in an attack on a three-story apartment building. Another resident is seriously injured after the impact.

US President Donald Trump, who ordered the operation on Venezuela, said that there were no Americans among the victims. However, according to the NYT, he indicated that some members of the US armed forces were injured. General Dan Caine clarified that the US helicopters that were moving to take Maduro out of the country came under fire. One helicopter was hit, but he said it remained airworthy and all American planes returned home. Trump also stated that “many” Cubans were killed in the operation by US forces.
