The attack by the A this Saturday (3) intensified the political-electoral clash with representatives of Bolsonarism and the right to criticize the president (PT), while the PT member seeks a cautious speech on the issue that had already been causing weariness for the left in past disputes.
Politicians interviewed by the report state that overthrowing the dictator’s regime should be an issue explored in the October presidential contest, in which Lula will seek re-election and which has the senator (-RJ), son of (PL), as a pre-candidate.
Names from the left and right, however, consider that the electoral consequences depend on the development of the uncertain situation in command of the neighboring country, with Trump and even a transition.
The Bolsonaro family used the attack as a hook to activate .
(Republicanos-SP) and other right-wing governors, such as Romeu Zema (Novo-MG), Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil-GO) and Ratinho Jr. (PSD-PR), from a dictatorship.
All of these are loyal supporters of Bolsonaro, former president after his defeat in the 2022 elections.
The left is investing in reinforcing the discourse in defense of sovereignty and democracy, a strategy used by the Lula government against the tariffs imposed by Trump. Deputies from the Venezuela camp see a risk of October.
When commenting on Maduro’s fall, , who he calls president, did not mention the USA or Trump directly. Right-wing deputies claim that the PT member is trying to free himself from Maduro, but will not be successful.
“The bombings on Venezuelan territory and the capture of its president cross an unacceptable line. These acts represent a very serious affront to Venezuela’s sovereignty and yet another extremely dangerous precedent for the entire international community,” said the PT member on X.
“Attacking countries, in flagrant violation of international law, is the first step towards a world of violence, chaos and instability, where the law of the strongest prevails over multilateralism”, he added.
Lula has maintained a good relationship with Maduro and received him at the Palácio do Planalto in May 2023. In 2024, however, the Venezuelan, who was proclaimed re-elected despite accusations of fraud.
On the other hand, the PT member has also sought a good position with Trump, with —after that, the American and sanctions on Brazil.
Lula’s closeness to Maduro and the interpretation that the dictator’s fall in Venezuela could be a harbinger of the result of the 2026 election were explored by possible opposition candidates, such as Tarcísio and (PL).
“Venezuela is now winning against the left and, at the end of the year, Brazil will also win,” the governor published in a video.
When talking about the effects of the dictatorship, the post displays images of the meeting between Lula and Maduro. “All of this was only possible over time because there was connivance, omission and even explicit support from those who insisted on calling a dictator their companion”, he says.
In a statement, Michelle says that Lula is a friend of Maduro and that by defending drug dealers and persecuting the opposition in the guise of defending democracy.
“The American operation […] It is also a warning to all the powerful people in other countries who, being part of the same group and aligned with the Venezuelan drug dictator, are trying to copy Maduro’s modus operandi in their countries. […] The message was quite clear: Dictators disguised as democrats and defenders of drug dealers, put the ‘Beard’ aside”, he says.
“The party got tired of the left”, says the leader of the PL in the Chamber, Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL), pointing out that the . “The left has not had the ability to review outdated concepts of socialism and communism.”
Sóstenes also states that pointing out the left’s flirtation with the dictatorship will be one of Flávio’s priorities in the campaign and that, despite the recent affinity between Lula and Trump, the American “will have a clear position in favor of the right-wing candidate” in October.
Flávio and the brothers Carlos and Eduardo from the episode. The senator stated that communism does not bring prosperity and that dictatorships fall “when people choose freedom.”
He also indirectly attacked the (Superior Electoral Court), the target of the Bolsonarists after the 2022 defeat. “Lula will be denounced. This is the end of the São Paulo Forum: international drug and weapons trafficking, money laundering, support for terrorists and dictatorships, rigged elections…”
In the opinion of deputy Jilmar Tatto (SP), national vice-president of the PT, the right will not be able to wear down Lula because the American action will.
“Only Lula can lead this democratic front in Latin America. So, if the Bolsonarists want to hold this debate, they will lose another one”, he says.
Pressured between Trump and Maduro, Lula’s path will be to preach sovereignty. “President Lula, like the PT, has a historic position for the self-determination of the people and sovereignty of each country”, states Tatto.
For PSOL president Paula Coradi, sovereignty will be an issue in the 2026 election, given that Trump has made his point clear. “We must prepare for Trump’s direct interference in Brazil’s elections. The right does not defend sovereignty, it is subservient, as it was in the tariffs.”
“No matter what we think of the Maduro government, it has nothing to do with the type of democracy that exists or not in Venezuela. What happened was an attack on a peaceful and sovereign country,” says Coradi.
In the same vein as Lula, he also does not criticize the Maduro regime. “The bombing in Caracas and the kidnapping of the president constitute the most serious international aggression recorded in South America in the 21st century”, he says.
“The sovereignty of the people, the peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for international law constitute central principles of the PT’s foreign policy”, he adds.
In response to the left’s strategy, Flávio ironized the fact that there were “people in Brazil concerned about Venezuela’s ‘sovereignty'”.
“It’s not about sovereignty. It’s about oppression, fear and murder of political opponents. Whoever puts this into perspective is not defending people. They are defending dictatorships,” he published.
Among those who spoke out equally criticizing Maduro’s dictatorship and Trump’s attack, and the PSB and PSDB parties.
