The Workers’ Party (PT) published this Monday (5), a video of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva calling on activists to take to the streets this Thursday, 8, in an act in memory of the coup attacks of 2023. Three years ago, supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) did not accept the result of the presidential election and invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília.
“We need to strengthen democracy. We are going to have a symbolic act against the 8th of January here in Brasília”, said Lula in the video. Last year, the president participated in an event in memory of the date that was empty and was not attended by the heads of the Legislative and Judiciary Powers.
“They want the 8th of January to fall into oblivion, and we want society to never forget that one day this country had someone who didn’t know how to lose the election,” said Lula in the recording published by the party.

This Sunday (4), the PT had already called on activists to occupy the streets and Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília, a place that was the target of coup attacks on January 8, 2023. The party decided last month that it will carry out events in memory of the attacks. Party members hope that the event will become a tradition and be held annually. The orientation, according to leaders, is to promote demonstrations in the main cities of all Brazilian states.
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) also scheduled an internal event to remember the date. On the occasion, the Court will show a documentary about the coup acts, which caused an estimated loss of R$12 million. The film will focus on the employees responsible for restoring the court.
