It is known as the “tuna of tunas”. 243 kg bluefin tuna sold for a record price in Tokyo.
It is the most famous fish auction in the world. Once again, at the beginning of the year, the auction took place at the Toyosu market. Once again, a record was set.
This Monday, a atum-rabiliho was sold for an absurd amount of 2.78 million euros. Or weigh 243 kilos.
The winner was one company: Kiyomura Corp. Or rather, Kiyomura’s owner, Kiyoshi Kimura, – which manages Sushi Zanmai, a very famous sushi restaurant chain, with dozens of establishments.
In fact, Kiyoshi Kimura is known as the “King of Tuna” and is known for… paying astronomical prices at the first auction of the year in Japan.
Once again, Kimura was the winner of this memorable moment of the year.
This time with this extra: a record. The previous maximum was seven years ago: 1.82 million euros. Yes, at the time, it was Kimura who paid that amount.
“I expected to pay a little less but the price shot up in an instant”, analyzed the winner of the auction at the end.
“Partly it’s for luck. But when I see a tuna that looks good, I can’t resist… I haven’t tried it yet, but it will be delicious”, he added.
