Snowfall can be expected in most of eastern Slovakia from Tuesday (January 6), snow tongues and drifts may also form. Stronger winds may also affect some districts. This is pointed out by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ), which issued warnings of the first level. He informs about it on his website.
It can snow more heavily in most of the Košice region and in several districts of the Prešov region. Ten to 15 centimeters of new snow can occasionally fall there. According to meteorologists, the height of the snow, as well as the possible formation of snow tongues and drifts, represents a potential danger for transport and the movement of people. Snow warnings are in effect from Tuesday 6 p.m. to Wednesday (January 7) 6 a.m., before snow drifts until midnight from Wednesday to Thursday (January 8).
Stronger winds should be expected in almost the entire Košice region and the districts of Prešov and Vranov nad Topľou. In some places, winds are expected to reach gusts of 65 kilometers per hour (km/h), with an average of 40 to 45 km/h. The warnings are provisionally valid from Tuesday 6:00 p.m. to midnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
