Venezuela: Tarcísio sets the electoral tone and recalibrates Trump – 01/04/2026 – Politics

The governor’s (Republican) election-themed video to commemorate the capture by the dictator () was well received by the Bolsonarista militancy, received a response from the minister (Institutional Relations) and was seen by allies as a presidential message.

Tarcísio until January 11th, but he wrote in person. In it, he talks about the ills of the dictatorship in the neighboring country and accuses the president () of supporting the Maduro regime — he does not mention it, however.

“Venezuela is now winning against the left and, at the end of the year, Brazil will also win”, concludes the governor, in reference to the presidential election in October this year.

The first lady of São Paulo, Cristiane Freitas, commented on the publication along the same lines: “A great victory for the Venezuelan people. May, at the end of the 2026 elections, we, Brazilians, can also celebrate!”

Despite being the preferred candidate of the center and the market for the Presidency of the Republic, the governor has said that he will run for re-election in the state.

At the beginning of December, the senator (Pl-RJ) ran over the pro-Tarcísio movement and with the approval of his father, the former president (PL).

Flávio also celebrated American military action in Venezuela and his closeness to Maduro — but there was no explicit reference to the Brazilian election as in the case of Tarcísio.

Other right-wing governors listed as having no relationship with the future of Brazil. This is the case of Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil-GO), Ratinho Jr (PSD-PR) and Romeu Zema (Novo-MG). Tarcísio was the last to speak publicly.

The governor of São Paulo also disagreed with Trump, marking a change in the position seen in the tariff. Tarcísio’s alignment with the US president, including the use of a cap with Trump’s slogan, with Brazilian products.

In July last year, Tarcísio’s first reaction was to blame Lula and exempt Bolsonaro in the articulation that resulted in the increase in tariffs. Then, he changed his tone and São Paulo. It also serves as a solution for pricing.

This time, Tarcísio avoided endorsing Trump and did not even mention the American president in his video. In the opinion of allies, the exclusion was not intentional.

The previous wear and tear was remembered on the networks.

“Tarcísio Freitas, who wore a Trump cap, celebrated the tariffs he imposed against Brazil, supported Eduardo Bolsonaro’s betrayal of the country, defended amnesty for convicted coup plotters, now has the nerve to hold Lula responsible for the US invasion of Venezuela. It’s very cynical for just one Bolsonaro supporter,” he said this Sunday (4).

When commenting on Maduro’s fall in an interview with the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, Tarcísio attributes the American action to what he considers Brazil’s failure to lead the democratic transition process in Venezuela due to the alignment between the PT and the dictator.

“Brazil never did this, never fulfilled this role. We can criticize the means that were used now, the legitimacy or not. But the fact is that something needed to be done and it was done,” he said.

An interlocutor of the governor states that defeating the left is something that is already happening.

In another recent nod to Bolsonarism, he released a video on the 1st in which, dressed in the Brazil shirt, he wishes a happy 2026 and preaches the defeat of the PT. On a blackboard, Tarcísio solves an equation that ends with the words Happy New Year in English and writes below “Happy 2026” and “Fora PT”. “The formula is simple! Happy 2026 = Out PT”, he published in the caption.

Tarcísio’s assistants and allies made no comment regarding the video he released about Venezuela.

When contacted by the report, they said that the demonstration, which was successful from the point of view of engagement, was presidential, well executed, strategic and more considered in relation to other Bolsonarists, who began to envision a deposition of Lula along the lines of Maduro’s.

An interlocutor also says that the governor plans to be re-elected, but will work for the unity of the right, regardless of who the rural candidate for Planalto is.

This Saturday (3) is considered the biggest intervention against the virus in decades. The Trump administration bombed the capital, Caracas, and captured Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The Venezuelan dictator has already committed narcoterrorism and crimes related to drug trafficking.
