Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday (5) that the world “is going through a period of turbulence and change”, noting that “unilateral actions and intimidation are seriously impacting the international order”, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
Without mentioning the United States or Venezuela, Xi said that “all countries should respect the development paths chosen independently by the people of other nations,” CCTV reported.
He added that they must “comply with international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, with the great powers in particular taking the lead,” according to CCTV.
Xi made the comments during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, the broadcaster reported.
China has had a close relationship with Venezuela for a long time. Previously, the country , and also stated that it is “deeply shocked and strongly condemns the blatant use of force by the US against a sovereign state.”
