Alex Felipe, European futsal champion with Sporting, has died

The Brazilian international he passed out at Ukhta airport as he was preparing to board a flight to Moscow, failing to resist attempts at resuscitation.

Brazilian international futsal player Alex Felipe, European champion with Sporting in 2019, died this Tuesday at the age of 32, after a game for Russian side Norilsk Nickel, announced the ‘lions’, which the winger represented between 2018 and 2020.

“Sporting expresses its deep regret at the death of Alex, former futsal player for the Lions, who passed away suddenly at the age of 32”, reads a note of condolence issued on the Lisbon team’s official website.

According to the press, Alex Felipe lost consciousness at Ukhta airport and passed out as he was preparing to board the Norilsk Nickel squad on a flight to Moscow, failing to resist resuscitation maneuvers with a defibrillator, with his death being declared at the scene.

Hours earlier, the championship’s isolated leader had drawn against champions Ukhta (2-2), in the first leg of the Russian Cup semi-finals.

“Sporting extends its deepest condolences, without forgetting to praise and thank the years of effort and dedication to the club”, highlighted the ‘lions’, second of three European teams in Alex Felipe’s career.

The winger had joined Norilsk Nickel in 2020, following two seasons with Sporting, in which he combined the first of two Champions Leagues in ‘Leonine’ history with two Portuguese Cups and a Super Cup, for a total of 35 goals in 67 games.

Winner of the Copa América with Brazil’s main team in 2017, with eight caps and two goals, Alex Felipe also played for Corinthians and Joinville and won a championship and a Copa del Rey with Inter Movistar in 2014/15, in the company of former Portuguese internationals Ricardinho and Cardinal.
