Corinthians settles debt with Matías Rojas and avoids new transfer ban

Corinthians paid the second installment of the agreement and fully paid off the debt with midfielder Matías Rojas. In total, the club paid around R$41.2 million to the Paraguayan player to avoid the application of a new FIFA transfer ban.

A, as reported by CNN, and the final payment was completed within the deadline established in the agreement between the parties. The information about the second payment was released by journalist Pedro Ramiro and confirmed.

After rounds of negotiations with lawyer Rafael Botelho, from PVBT Law, who takes care of the player’s defense, Timão agreed that the payment of R$41 million would be made in two installments.

With the situation resolved in the Rojas case, the board led by Osmar Stábile is now concentrating efforts to, in an attempt to overturn the active transfer ban, which still prevents Corinthians from registering new athletes.

Understand the case

The Corinthians board recognized a debt of R$8 million with Rojas at the beginning of 2024. The player was hired by the club in mid-2023, after a spell at Racing-ARG, under the management of Duilio Monteiro Alves.

President Augusto Melo committed to paying off the outstanding debt and agreed that, if the club were to delay its commitments with the player again, he could charge the entire remaining amount he would receive under his contract (R$40 million). That’s what happened.

The midfielder, signed without transfer costs, had a contract with Timão until June 2027.

After failing to reach a new agreement with Corinthians, Rojas unilaterally terminated his contract and took the case to court, charging the full amount.
