Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease and is one of the most common diseases worldwide. On average, one in ten adults is affected – estimates for Austria are in a similar range. The number of sufferers is continually increasing, making diabetes a growing challenge for the healthcare system and the economy.
