Marques Mendes says that polls “don’t match the street” but admits that he could lose with “dispersion of votes”

Three-way technical tie: Marques Mendes leads the most recent survey, followed by Seguro and Ventura

The candidate supported by the PS and CDS-PP was asked about a survey carried out by Pitagórica for CNN Portugal, TVI, JN and TSF, released on Monday, which indicates a technical tie between five candidates, with António José Seguro (PS) in the lead and Marques Mendes in fifth place.

Presidential candidate Marques Mendes stated, this Tuesday, that he will not change anything in the face of more negative polls, considering that “they don’t match” with the enthusiasm he finds on the street, but admitted that he could lose if there is a “large dispersion of votes”.

At the end of a visit to the Municipal Market of Torres Vedras (Lisbon district), the candidate supported by the PS and CDS-PP was asked about a survey carried out by Pitagórica for CNN Portugal, TVI, JN and TSF, released on Monday, which indicates a technical tie between five candidates, with António José Seguro (PS) leading and Marques Mendes in fifth place.

“I will not bow to other surveys in the past and I will not lose enthusiasm for this survey either. Furthermore, the first surprising piece of information from the survey is that it doesn’t match up very well with the street, with the reality on the ground”, he considered, saying that he finds “great support” in the campaign.

However, the candidate repeated a message that has dominated his campaign since Sunday, when PSD president and prime minister Luís Montenegro appealed to the center-right and even moderate socialists for a useful vote for Marques Mendes.

“If there is a large dispersion of votes, I could lose this election. If there is a concentration of votes, I can certainly win this election”, said Marques Mendes today, assuring that “nothing will change” and will continue to work “with great humility”.
