In the east of Slovakia, first and second degree warnings against snow tongues and drifts, as well as first degree warnings against wind and snowfall, are announced on Tuesday evening. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) reported on this on its website.

- The measures will continue until Thursday evening for the safety of residents.
Warnings against snowdrifts and drifts apply to the entire Prešovský and Košice regions. Their second level will come into effect at 21:00 in Košice districts, as well as in Michalovce, Sobrance and Trebišov districts. These warnings should tentatively remain in effect until Thursday (January 8) evening.
In addition, snowfall warnings are in effect in almost the entire Košice region and in several districts of the Prešov region. Ten centimeters of new snow can occasionally fall. “The indicated amount of new snow represents a potential hazard for human activities (traffic and movement of people). The predicted amount of new snow is common for the given time of year and area, but may cause minor damage.” the institute warned.
In almost the entire Košice region and in the districts of Prešov and Vranov nad Topľou, warnings of the first degree against the wind are also valid. It can reach a speed of 65 to 80 kilometers per hour in impacts.
