The company detected the potential presence of cereulide in certain batches of NAN and Alfamino Júnior formulas, which could cause diarrhea or vomiting.

Nestlé announced on Monday the preventive withdrawal of specific batches of NAN and Alfamino Júnior infant formulas after the presence of a toxin was detected in one of the raw materials used.

In a publication published on Monday on its website, Nestlé indicates that they were affected specific batches PreNAN 400g, NAN SUPREMEPro 1 and 2 (800g), NAN TOTAL 1 (400g and 800g), NAN TOTAL 2, NAN OPTIPRO 1 (800g and 200ml), NAN AR (800g) and Alfamino Júnior.

The company highlights that “so far no incidence associated with the consumption of these batches has been confirmed”.

Nestlé informs that cereulide is a toxin created by certain strains of the microorganism Bacillus cereus, which can cause intense vomiting and diarrheaand is typically found in raw materials and occasionally in foods such as milk and dairy products.

“Bacillus cereus is a microorganism whose strains, for the most part, have no impact on food safety. However, it has the potential to create toxins, one of which is cereulide, which can cause food poisoning”, can be read on the website.

Nestlé explains that if there are symptoms, they appear between 30 minutes and six hours after consumption and can be: intense vomiting and diarrhea, linked to drowsiness, and a doctor should be sought.

According to the company, if the baby does not show symptoms, “there is no reason to worry“.

If you have purchased or used one of the products from the batch included in the withdrawal, “you must stop using the product and the amount spent will be refunded in full”, explains the company.

Nestlé also informs that the batch number can be found on the bottom of the cans or, in liquid formats, on the top of the packaging.
