PP evaluates Rodrigo Garcia’s candidacy against Tarcísio – 01/05/2026 – Panel

Unhappy with the governor (Republicans), he considers it to be launched in 2026.

The former governor of (2022) has been without a party since March 2024, when he left the party, and has been in talks with the PP about a possible affiliation.

Despite this, the Panel found that the PP does not prioritize running for government, but rather tries to elect a federal deputy, former state secretary of Public Security.

Garcia’s name is seen as capable of mobilizing a good platform to boost the candidacy of the party’s federal and state deputies — in 2022, when trying to be re-elected to the São Paulo government, he had the support of almost 500 of the 645 São Paulo mayors in the first round.

In addition, the former governor of the mayor of São Paulo, (MDB), in the 2024 re-election, and served as a campaign advisor.

The PP has already publicly disclosed that to the state government.

In a note released on December 27, the party alleged “growing discontent among mayors” with the Tarcísio government, in addition to “recurrent complaints about the lack of attention to parliamentarians”.

The PP said that, with (PL-RJ) becoming the Presidency of the Republic, it considers it more strategic to support a candidate for government “more aligned with the party’s national project”.

In the text, the party raised the possibility of supporting the São Paulo government with names such as federal deputy Ricardo Salles (Novo), former Minister of the Environment, and Filipe Sabará, who worked in the João Doria and Tarcísio governments, coordinated the (PRTB) campaign for São Paulo City Hall and became one of Flávio’s supporters.

Salles denies his intention to run in the election against Tarcísio and Sabará claims that he will only be a candidate if the governor does not support Flávio for the Presidency.
