Just one in three Americans approve of the US launched against it, for the overthrow of President Nicolás Maduro, while 72% do not hide their concern about the possibility of a prolonged one in this Latin American country, according to a poll by the Ipsos institute on behalf of the Reuters news agency.

According to the results of the two-day poll, released today, 65% of Republicans supported the military operation ordered by President Donald Trump, along with 11% of Democrats and 23% of independents.

In the early hours of Saturday, US armed forces launched a bloody raid in Caracas, capturing the president of Venezuela and taking him to the US to stand trial on drug-trafficking charges.

The poll showed significant support among Republicans for a US foreign policy that includes exerting influence on neighboring countries. 43% of Republicans agreed with the statement that “the US should pursue a policy of hegemony in Western Hemisphere affairs,” while 19% disagreed. The rest either did not express an opinion or appeared cautious.

In the same poll, which polled 1,248 Americans online, President Trump’s approval rating rose to 42 percent – ​​the highest level since October – up three points from a December poll. The margin of statistical error is estimated at ±3%.
