Sisu concentrates well-rated public institutions abroad; check 15

Sisu (Unified Selection System) 2026 brings together 136 public higher education institutions, the largest participation since 2010, and most of them perform highly in national and international assessments.

Data from the MEC (Ministry of Education) released this month indicate that 76.4% of universities have IGC (General Course Index) with concepts 4 or 5, higher bands on the official scale.

Among the participants, 25 institutions achieved the maximum grade (IGC 5) and 79 obtained IGC 4.

In , 71 universities and federal institutes appear among the best in Latin America and the Caribbean in the QS World University Rankings: Latin America & The Caribbean 2026, produced by the British consultancy QS (Quacquarelli Symonds).

The ranking uses indicators such as reputation among employers, proportion of teachers with doctorates, scientific production and digital impact.

Among the top one hundred positions are institutions such as (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais), UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina), UFPE (Federal University of Pernambuco) and UnB (University of Brasília), which returned to Sisu in this edition.

The includes federal, state and municipal universities and institutes, but the data shows a consistent pattern of evaluation, according to the MEC.

More than 95% of Brazilian scientific production is carried out by public institutions, according to international indexing bases.

Registration for Sisu

It is free and takes place from January 19th to 23rd, on the Single Portal for Access to Higher Education.

Candidates will be able to select up to two course options. The results of the regular call will be announced on January 29th.
