Grêmio is very close to making one of the most significant negotiations in its history official. The club agreed signing of striker Tetê25 years old, who was at Panathinaikos, in Greece, and is preparing the biggest investment ever made by Tricolor in its entire history. Revealed in the Grêmio youth categories, the player returns to Porto Alegre after around seven years in European football and arrives to be one of the main references of the new project led by coach Luís Castro.
From the beginning of planning for 2026, the board treated the negotiation as strategic. To complete the agreement, Grêmio needed to set up a robust financial operation, with support from investors and a payment model diluted over time. The agreed value is around 6.2 million euros, approximately R$39.2 million. Of this total, around 2 million euros will be paid upfront, while the remainder will be paid in installments over four years. If Tetê reaches sporting goals established in the contract, the final amount could reach 7 million euros. Furthermore, it was agreed that Panathinaikos will be entitled to 20% capital gains on a future sale of the athlete.
Before Tetê, the biggest signing in Grêmio’s history was that of Uruguayan striker Cristian Oliveira, for R$25.9 million, from Los Angeles FC, from the United States.
What will Tetê’s salary be at Grêmio?
Tetê’s return marks a new financial level for Grêmio. In terms of salary, the striker will be among the best-paid players in the squad, with salaries close to R$1 million per month. The amount is lower than what he received in Greek football, where he earned around R$1.5 million net per month. THE link with the club from Rio Grande do Sul should last until December 2029reinforcing the sports and heritage investment nature of the operation, as management believes in a new appreciation of the athlete on the South American scene.
While awaiting medical examinations and the signing of the contract, scheduled to take place later this week in Porto Alegre, Tetê officially said goodbye to Panathinaikos. In a post on social media, the striker thanked the club and the Greek fans, highlighting the period as fundamental for his professional development. Initially, the agreement with Grêmio provided for a four-year contract, but the trend is for a three-season contract, with the option to renew for another.
Formed at the Grêmio base, Tetê was traded in 2019 without playing for the professional team. Since then, he has built a career in Europe, with spells at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he worked with Luís Castro, as well as Lyon, Leicester and Galatasaray. At Panathinaikos, he played 76 games in a season and a half, with 13 goals and 10 assists. The farewell to the Greek club even had interaction from Carlos Vinicius, current Grêmio center forward and former teammate of Tetê at Galatasaray, who commented on the attacker’s post.
