The film world in tears, the famous director died († 70): He succumbed to a serious illness!

Hungarian director Béla Tarr died on Tuesday at the age of 70. He is best known for his film The Satanic Tango from 1994, which is based on the book of the same name by Nobel Prize laureate László Krasznahorkai. TASR writes about it according to the agency MTI and AFP.

Tarr’s death after a long and serious illness was reported by his colleague from the film industry, Bence Fliegauf, and confirmed by the Hungarian Association of Filmmakers. Tarr was born in 1955 in Pécs. In 1977, his directorial debut Rodinné ohnisko was released. His film Damnation (1988) was the first Hungarian film to premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival. Tarr’s last film is The Turin Horse from 2011, for which he won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale.
