Trump confirms that ‘many Cuban soldiers’ were killed in offensive in Venezuela

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Tuesday (6) that the military operation carried out in Venezuela involved “many soldiers on the ground” and resulted in the death of foreign soldiers. According to him, “many Cuban soldiers were killed” during the action, commenting on the developments of the American offensive in the South American country carried out last Saturday.

Trump also used the statements, made at an event for members of the Republican Party, to reinforce his defense of an accelerated strengthening of the US weapons industry. According to the president, the country “has the best weapons in the world”, but is facing excessive slowness in the production of military equipment. “It takes time to manufacture weapons,” he said, criticizing the defense industry’s current deadlines.

The president stated that he intends to adopt a tougher stance towards companies in the sector. “I will tell defense contractors to build faster” and added that he will be “very tough on defense companies.” In Trump’s assessment, some of the main military programs take too long to get off the production lines. “The F-35 fighter and the Apache helicopter take too long to make,” he declared, when defending changes in the manufacturing pace.

In addition to the military issue, Trump once again highlighted the effects of trade tariffs on the American economy. According to him, “we have US$650 million that entered or will soon enter our country from tariffs”, pointing to the collection as a direct benefit of the trade policy adopted by his government.
