Vibrators on motorcycle seats? All in the name of security

Just when you thought you’d seen it all in terms of motorcycle safety technology, along comes ViberAlert… a product that asks a simple but deeply disconcerting question: what if the seat tickled your butt to keep you safe?

The is a smart technology for motorcycle seats, equipped with vibrating actuators that deliver real-time haptic feedback directly to our butt.

Although it may sound like a joke, the company clarifies that this invention was made in the name of “road safety, situational awareness and driver concentration”.

The concept is surprisingly simple. As detailed by , instead of relying on visual alerts or audible signals — which can be distracting, easy to ignore or simply annoying while driving — ViberAlert communicates through vibrations.

Leaning too far, exceeding a set speed limit or approaching a hazard, and the seat vibrates to alert you. No beeps. No flashing icons. Just one subtle reminder from… below.

The system includes integrated sensors that monitor the driver’s behavior using a gyroscope/accelerometer, whose data then passes through a CAN Bus interface and reaches the driver in the form of haptic feedback.

Haptic feedback is already widely used in vehicles and wearable technology. From vibrating steering wheels to smartwatches with haptic feedback, and even video game controls. ViberAlert is essentially applying the same logic to motorcycles — just in a much more intimate location.

According to the company, the system can be adjusted to provide different vibration patterns for different alerts, helping drivers distinguish warnings without having to take their eyes off the road.

As New Atlas points out, a good number of field tests will now be needed to understand whether there are measurable benefits for drivers.
